Palm Beach is known for many things, but one of the most popular local pursuits is undoubtedly yachting. In the cruising season, from September through March, hundreds of spectacular boats arrive from exotic destinations to make the most of this coastal stretch. With all of the incredible vessels that enter and exit these marinas each season, here is a short guide to seeking out the best luxury yachts in Palm Beach while staying at the fittingly luxurious Chesterfield Palm Beach.
The Yacht Clubs
There are several clubs in Palm Beach, but the most famous is Palm Beach Yacht Club. As one of the oldest institutions in the area, the Yacht Club predates Flagler’s resorts. Having come from Oklahoma, a man named Charles Clarke fell in love with the area after staying at the Coconut Grove House, the first hotel in Palm Beach. He bought the hotel and marina in 1882 and soon established Palm Beach Yacht Club. With its five-star restaurant and network of reciprocally privileged clubs around the country, Palm Beach Yacht Club is now one of the best in the world.
The Town Docks
On Palm Beach Island there is only one public marina, the Town Docks. Since the 1940s, this marina complex has been berthing yachts of up to 260 feet. But the Town Docks is actually comprised of three fixed docks, each with its own character and type of patron. The docks each take their names from the streets that are next to them; the Australian Dock is built to house the larger yachts and superyachts, the Brazilian Dock generally accommodates family boats and has an atmosphere that goes with its purpose, and the Peruvian Dock, with the best views of Lake Worth, houses all of the other vessels.
Palm Beach International Boat Show
One of the most anticipated events of the year is the annual Palm Beach International Boat Show. Usually taking place in March, the show has been an end of season fixture for more than 30 years. And as one of the top five boat shows in the USA, it attracts visitors from all over the globe while featuring over a billion dollars worth of boats, yachts and equipment from the best manufacturers in the world. From small inflatables to 150-foot superyachts, the show is the premier expo in South Florida, with seminars, live music and kids’ workshops. This event is a must for anyone looking to see cutting edge yacht technology or simply enjoy a great day out.
Buying, Selling and Chartering
Buying and selling, as well as chartering luxury yachts is big business in Palm Beach and a number of well regarded businesses and brokerages operate in the area. Located in the heart of the luxury shopping street, Worth Avenue Yachts are brokers with a strong reputation in the industry. Off the island, Palm Beach Yachts International also has a big presence in the market. In addition, there are whole raft of other companies, like Palm Beach Yachting, who also supply yacht charters for those who don’t want to buy.
Palm Beach is also home to Hopkins Carter Marine Supply & Fishing Tackle, the oldest marine supply in Florida. Hopkins Carter has been serving yachtsmen and fishermen since 1916 and boasts an impressive product line and expert staff. With 100 years of history, the store is proudly continuing a Palm Beach seafaring tradition.
Many yachtsmen like to leave their vessel safely docked and enjoy a stay on dry land in The Chesterfield Palm Beach, where they can enjoy our flawless, friendly service and delicious international cuisine. After allowing the sea to rock them to sleep for a few nights as they bring their yachts to Palm Beach, we love to give our seafaring guests a fabulous Chesterfield Palm Beach experience.
