Event: Nick Cave: Meet Me at the Center of the Earth at the Norton Museum of Art
Date: October 9th to January 9th 2011
Art can take on many different forms, but wearable costumes that make use of discarded items are likely to be new a new sight for even the most dedicated follower of the art world.
They are the creation of Chicago-based artist Nick Cave and the unusual designs are set to go on display at Palm Beach's Norton Museum of Art from early October.
Made using materials such as metal, plastic and fabrics and named soundsuits by their creator, the items are described by the museum as "multi-layered, mixed media, wearable sculptures designed to captivate visitors of all ages".
Approximately 40 of Mr Cave's creations will be appearing in the Meet Me at the Center of the Earth exhibition - which runs from October 9th to January 9th 2011 - with each one drawing on influences as diverse as African tribal wear, religious ceremonial costumes and Mardi Gras.
One of his aims with the work is to encourage viewers to think about the history of the objects used, as well as the imagery projected by the suits themselves.
The exhibition - which previously ran at the University of California, Los Angeles's Fowler Museum - is likely to be a big hit and guests planning a stay at luxury Palm Beach hotel The Chesterfield Palm Beach will be able to see it free-of-charge of they opt for the Nights and the Museums package.
This includes two complimentary admissions to the Norton Museum, along with tickets to the Flagler Museum, an English breakfast every morning and a deluxe fruit plate to enjoy on arrival.
