On the Silk Road and High Seas: Chinese Ceramics, Culture and Commerce at the Norton Museum of Art

Event: On the Silk Road and High Seas: Chinese Ceramics, Culture and Commerce at the Norton Museum of Art
Date: August 21st to November 21st

Historians with an interest in ceramic work from ancient China will be in luck if they are planning a trip to Palm Beach late next month.

An exhibition of items dating from this era will begin at the Norton Museum of Art on August 21st, featuring bottles, plates and other items from as far back as the eighth century.

Many originate from the so-called Silk Road trading route that ran from eastern China to the Back Sea from the second century, which linked east Asian civilizations to Europe via south-west Asia.

"The superb examples of Chinese ceramics featured in this exhibition were prized at home and treasured abroad, where they were indeed rarities until the mid 18th century," the museum stated.

Among the items set to be on display at the event - titled On the Silk Road and High Seas: Chinese Ceramics, Culture and Commerce - is an earthenware tomb offering stand dating from the Tang dynasty in the eighth century, as well as a bottle likely designed for the Portuguese export market from the Ming dynasty in the early 17th century.

Guests who choose to stay at luxury Palm Beach hotel the Chesterfield Palm Beach will be able to view the exhibition free of charge, providing they opt for the special Nights and the Museums package.

Two one-day admissions to the Norton are included in the price of the package, along with tickets to the Flagler Museum, an English breakfast each morning and a romantic dinner on one night.
