2010 Afro-Cuban Dance Festival at Florida International University

Event: 2010 Afro-Cuban Dance Festival at Florida International University
Date: July 15th to July 18th

Since 1998, the Afro-Cuban Dance Festival has been held in celebration of the many forms of dance and drumming popularised by the Afro-Cuban community.

And the event returns once more next month, with Florida International University the venue for what will be the 12th annual event from organisers Ife-Ile.

Over 15 dance and drumming workshops will be held between July 15th and 18th, giving beginners and experienced dancers alike the chance to perfect their steps in Yuka, Orisha dance, Arara, Salsa and others.

And at the end of the event, visitors will be able to stand back and watch the experts take centre stage, as it is due to culminate with a Dance Gala featuring specials guests alongside Ife-Ile's own Afro-Cuban Dance Company.

The event has become popular among locals - which is not surprising as Miami is home to the largest concentration of Cubans in the US - and also among visitors from further afield, who often travel to the Sunshine State every year to join in the fun.

Guests staying at the luxury Florida hotel the Chesterfield Palm Beach might want to sample the festival during their stay in the area and after working up an appetite learning new steps in the morning, those who have opted for the Get More From Your Stay package can return to the hotel and enjoy traditional English afternoon tea for two on one day.
