Families going to the Palm Beach area have to take a day out to visit the local zoo.

The Palm Beach Zoo, which is close to the Chesterfield Palm Beach hotel, has enough animals to please everyone in the family, from tigers and lions to parrots and rhinos.

Some of the weirder and wackier animals include the prevost's squirrel, a southern tamandua, the cotton-top tamarind and the leopard gecko.

As well as being a good tourist attraction, the zoo is also aiming to boost population numbers of certain species, including jaguars and spider monkeys.

Those wanting to get an extra special experience can try out one of the events held at the venue, like the Safari Nights, running from 17:30 to 20:00 local time.

Children can also attend the evening event benefit from getting a behind-the-scenes tour of the area, a chance to try out the interactive play fountain and testing their skills in the special events pavilion.

While staying at the Chesterfield Palm Beach hotel families can plump for the Home for the Holidays package, running in December and January.

It offers afternoon tea, a surprise gift, a cocktail each in the bar and traditional breakfast every morning.
