The 50th is a big milestone for anyone and, to mark the occasion, the Old School Square Cultural Arts Centre is to hold an exhibition celebrating the great and the good of the famous blonde.

Barbie has seen many challengers come and go, with no other dolls able to match the style and flair which has made her one of the US' top pop culture icons and the darling of young girls everywhere from New York to New Zealand.

The exhibition at the Old School Square will feature hundreds of figurines and accessories and will also tell the story of how one little girl playing with paper dolls inspired her mother to create this legendary character all the way back in 1959.
