A Christmas Carol at the Atlantic Theater

A tale which embodies the spirit of Christmas is coming to the Atlantic Theater this winter to help welcome in the festive period.

Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol will tell the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a miserable penny-pincher who is reluctant to part with his money for even the most basic amenities, such as heating.

While in his counting house, his nephew Fred visits him and invites him to a party to celebrate the joys of the festive period.

The yuletide spirit is absent from Ebenezer, who says "Bah Humbug" to the request.

However, this refusal marks the beginning of a series of strange events for the tight-fisted one, as the ghost of Jacob Marley pays him a visit warning him of the purgatory that awaits those who are greedy.

Another supernatural being, the Ghost of Christmas Past, enters his world and shows him all that he has sacrificed in his quest to become rich.

The Ghost of Christmas Present then takes the cheapskate to his clerk Bob Cratchit's house, where he sees how Christmas brings joy to the faces of those who celebrate.

Finally, Ebenezer is shown his own grave and the relief felt by those who owed him money.

He realises how his thirst for gold coins has cost him much in his life and, keen to redeem himself, he embraces the cheer and happiness of the festive period, concluding a journey from greed and avarice to love and sharing.
