Event: Bon Festival at the Morikami Museum
Date: August 9th 2008.
The Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens is holding its annual Bon Festival in Palm Beach this August.
The Bon Festival is inspired by Obon, Japan's traditional three-day celebration that honours ancestors for the quality of life enjoyed by the living.
Attractions at the event include Japanese folk dancing, a street fair with games and vendor booths and taiko drum performances.
The highlight of the evening is the traditional lighting of hundreds of lanterns at sunset, to guide the departed souls of ancestors who have come to visit for the day. There will also be a large fireworks display, in accordance with Japanese custom.
The luxury hotel in Florida the Chesterfield Palm Beach is well placed for those who wish to sample a little Japanese culture while in Florida.
Admission prices at the Morikami are $10 (£5) for adults, $9 for seniors and $6 for concessions including children, with children under six allowed in for free.
The celebrations begin at 17:00 with the fireworks display scheduled for 21:00.
